Dr. Alan Shalita in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2001 tells the acne that arise prior to menstruation is caused by hormonal surges that occur every month cycle.
Dr. Shalita conducted a study of 400 women aged 12-52 years, found about 40 percent have acne before menstruation with the most frequent incidence in women aged 33 years or more.
